Our first volunteers of the year

For the last four years the ladies of the Warrenton Garden Club have been our very first volunteers each year. These generous ladies sought out an opportunity to support the farm and have taken on the very big job of planting our seed trays before they go into our little greenhouse. Just this morning these ten wonderful volunteers stepped up to plant 55 seed trays, each tray with 72 cells. That’s 3880 tiny little cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower seeds lovingly started, one seed at a time. If all goes well this mornings effort will yield much more than a two tons of highly nutritious real food for the area food banks. These ladies are helping to make this a better world, one seed at a time. And they are scheduled to come back three more times in Feb. and March.

My heart goes out to these ladies and all of our volunteers. We spread the work load out pretty widely so no one carries too much of a burden, but collectively we can make a big difference and have a good time as we do it. These trays will spend three weeks in our heated greenhouse, then be moved up to our unheated high tunnel to make room for the next batch. Weather permitting, the seedlings will be ready to plant into the field on Saturday March 18th. We’ll need lots of help then so please sign up with our Volunteer Coordinator, Lynn, to keep up with our hours and posted workdays. Just click this link www.fc-mg.org/educationfarmsignup.htmlv and ask to be added to our contact list.

If you know any of these ladies, please give them a big hug, and thank them for being a very bright spot in this world!!
